As a composer it's not often I get to leave the studio and get on set to actually witness some master filmmakers at work, however this weekend saw my electronic group Go Yoko! and cast of crazies descend upon Kent for a forthcoming video release for the track Nightfall. It has to be said that this was a bold project on a low budget with ambitions to be slightly more cinematic than your usual music video and we’re pretty sure Solaris Media pulled it off and the finished product will represent the scale and meticulous detail that they put into every shot. With the last minute help of the awesome make up artist Fran everything fell into place to help make this shoot as great as it could be. Make sure you check out her work here. Despite starting off as a humble idea, this shoot soon turned into a full on film set with the team planning over 125 shots with full detailed storyboards which were all successfully shot over an enduring 2 x 18 hour days. After a few planning setbacks such as the sudden demolition of our original location Lee the Director of Solaris Media managed to squeeze in a complete re-write of all the storyboards within 3 days, detailing every movement and camera shot. His precise organised planning and driving determination firmly held the weekend together. The great relationship of his tight team of 3 all working off each other was really something to admire, there were no egos at play and they all seemed to trust each others judgment every step of the way. Cameraman Joan Bordera Benaiges and production assistant Iannis Aliferis' passion for getting every scene’s lighting and angles spot on was immensely impressive.
It really goes to show that if you are going to do something...you make sure you do it properly or not at all. We are very excited to see the finished results, until then here are some of the production shots of the crew at work. (Plus it's been great to get my old classic Moog Liberation out of the studio and have a chance to show off it's saucy looks! ;-))
