In addition to composing the music for this I recently had the pleasure of joining the guys of Solaris Media Productions on set for a short film they were putting together called ‘A Gift Of Laughter’. I got to record the audio, dialogue and managed to get some nice additional ambience takes for the use of overdubs. The 2 kids performed very professionally and were verypatient considering the amount of takes required during the long hot day. The soundtrack I provided was very well received by the producer and I fully managed to capture the tone of his vision as he intended. So here it is for your viewing pleasure, itself a little sunbeam of joy to lighten up your day.... A Gift Of Laughter. 'A Gift of Laughter' from Solaris Media on Vimeo.

Here's a great little Sci-Fi short I just had the pleasure in scoring for the team at Solaris Media for Sci-Fi London's 48 hour Film Challenge, this one certainly kept me on my toes with a 48hr deadline to complete the project from start to finish. I started it at 5pm on Sunday and finished at 5am Monday morning. Things would have been a lot less scary without a few gremlins in the works to keep me on my toes but we made it by the deadline and fingers crossed it does well in the competition.
Merely 2 months ago the guys at Peace Pumpkin Pictures set themselves the challenge to produce a 3 minute Horror Film based on the the theme of 'Who's There?' for the Bloody Cuts Film competition. It was tight deadline considering they had to go from concept to finish by the end of December but the project finally came together and my musical score was delivered a few days before Christmas. With the film completed well in advance of the deadline despite the severe Toronto snow and freezing conditions literally cutting the power from the Post Production process we could all enjoy our festive feasting knowing that this great little short was complete. I hope you enjoy it...be afraid! As a composer it's not often I get to leave the studio and get on set to actually witness some master filmmakers at work, however this weekend saw my electronic group Go Yoko! and cast of crazies descend upon Kent for a forthcoming video release for the track Nightfall. It has to be said that this was a bold project on a low budget with ambitions to be slightly more cinematic than your usual music video and we’re pretty sure Solaris Media pulled it off and the finished product will represent the scale and meticulous detail that they put into every shot. With the last minute help of the awesome make up artist Fran everything fell into place to help make this shoot as great as it could be. Make sure you check out her work here. Despite starting off as a humble idea, this shoot soon turned into a full on film set with the team planning over 125 shots with full detailed storyboards which were all successfully shot over an enduring 2 x 18 hour days. After a few planning setbacks such as the sudden demolition of our original location Lee the Director of Solaris Media managed to squeeze in a complete re-write of all the storyboards within 3 days, detailing every movement and camera shot. His precise organised planning and driving determination firmly held the weekend together. The great relationship of his tight team of 3 all working off each other was really something to admire, there were no egos at play and they all seemed to trust each others judgment every step of the way. Cameraman Joan Bordera Benaiges and production assistant Iannis Aliferis' passion for getting every scene’s lighting and angles spot on was immensely impressive.
It really goes to show that if you are going to do something...you make sure you do it properly or not at all. We are very excited to see the finished results, until then here are some of the production shots of the crew at work. (Plus it's been great to get my old classic Moog Liberation out of the studio and have a chance to show off it's saucy looks! ;-)) Here's my latest project, the soundtrack to a groovy little windows puzzle game by the guys over at NViO games. I can't help but feel like I subconsciously drew some influence from Orbital and Mario for this one..but there you go, worlds collide and such things are born. You can check out the track directly here. It would be great to get some feedback so leave a little tag if you get the chance. Also if you fancy getting your paws on the full game you can get it over here for free! Get involved!
Passion To Cheese Hi Off-worlders! It has been a fun and eye opening project from the start but now the live Blade Runner event is nearly upon us I kind of thought it would be nice to document the hard hard work somehow in the form of a release of some selected bits. This is a collaboration I've been working on with my GoYoko! band mate Darren Pain. Tracks which we feel keep true to the original tone and style of the film which was so masterfully stylised by the great Mr Vangelis himself. Obviously it’s clearly a soundtrack which can’t be bettered and we’d be foolish to attempt any type of recreation, but instead we prefer to see it as how we might see this universe from the inside, adding a touch of our own sound as if we were musically document our observations from within and exploring the rich palate of sounds. Basically it's a bit like a musical deleted scenes and a good enough reason to fire up my semi-senile old Roland Jupiter 6. The planned album in question is currently being whittled down from our massive 3 hour live set of original material and currently has the tentative title of “Electric Pets”. I’ll keep you updated on the progress of this so keep your eyes peeled for more details of when and where you can get hold of it. In the mean time here’s a clip of us rehearsing a section of our live improvisation. Many thanks,
